Itinerary
1. This monument was placed after the Second World War in memory of the war and its victims.
2. We pass the Royal Palace on Dam Square. This is the official working palace of the Dutch king and is open for visits.
3. We pass the 5-star hotel, hotel Krasnapolsky, on Dam Square. This used to be a failing Polish coffee house until Adolf Kransapolsky bought it in 1865 and established a beautiful restaurant there. In 1880, Mr. Krasnapolsky also purchased the adjacent properties to convert the building into a hotel.
4. The coffee and tea museum is close to our route. There you will find a beautiful 18th century coffee and tea shop.
5. This church was built around 1300 as a small, modest church and was later expanded into this impressive basilica in Gothic style.
6. We walk through the red light district. Behind the windows are many women of different nationalities waiting for their customers. Prostitutes have been found here since the 15th century.
7. We pass the monument to Major Bosshardt, the figurehead of the Salvation Army
8. We walk on the Zeedijk, a lively part of Amsterdam. The street of the fierce sailors, and you can still feel that a bit. Rich traders used to live here, but they later moved to the Heren-, Prinsen- and Keizersgracht. The sailors remained.
9. The Fo Guang Shan He Hua Temple on the Amsterdam Zeedijk is the largest temple in Europe, built in traditional Chinese palace style.
10. The Waag is a 15th-century building on the Nieuwmarkt in the center of Amsterdam. It was originally a city gate. The current name refers to its later function as a weighing house.
