A photo opportunity stop at the old bridge in the Highlands: The Old Packhorse Bridge (1717), in the village.
Duration: 15 mins
2. The Watchers
During our drive on the Snow Roads Scenic Route, we will stop at The Watchers, which offers a unique opportunity for photography, with the sculptural forms set against the dramatic backdrop of the Cairngorms and Corgarff Castle. Situated at an elevation of 637 meters above sea level, The Watchers comprises four sculptural cowls made from folded steel, each sheltering a larch wood seat. Just take a deep breath and relax!
Duration: 20 mins
3. Corgarff Castle
The combination of medieval residence and later military adaptation gives Corgarff Castle a layered history. The original tower-house was built in the mid-16th century, likely around 1530–1550, by the Clan Elphinstone or in their name and later leased to the Clan Forbes of Towie. ** We will see the castle externally - it is a closer photo opportunity and an introduction to the castle - no entrance to the castle**
Duration: 20 mins
4. Braemar
Braemar is in the heart of the Cairngorms / Royal Deeside area. The village has strong royal connections and often hosts visitors attending the Braemar Highland Games. Local boutiques, outdoor gear shops, and traditional Scottish goods. Great place for lunch!
Duration: 90 mins
5. Braemar Castle
The current castle was built in 1628 by John Erskine, Earl of Mar, as a hunting lodge. Over time, Braemar Castle has had various roles: hunting lodge, fortress, Jacobite base, and even a garrison. In 1831, the military left, and the castle returned to the Farquharson clan. It’s one of the first castles in Scotland to be run by a local community trust. The ticket to visit the castle must be separately purchased online or at the castle - £16.00 per person.
Duration: 90 mins
6. Balmoral Castle
The castle is privately owned by the British monarch, not part of the Crown Estate. It is the Royal Family Highland Retreat. Purchased in 1852 by Prince Albert, consort of Queen Victoria, the current Castle was built between 1853–1856. Explore its grounds, gardens and an exhibition in the Ballroom. The castle is subject to closure due to its functionality for the Royal Family, mainly between August/September. A ticket to visit the castle is not included and must be purchased online or at the castle - £22.00 per person.
Duration: 120 mins
7. Ballater
