Itinerary

1. First stop is in the village of Zaanse Schans, where you see windmills and a historic shipyard. As you tour the town, learn more from your guide about this town renowned for its 17th- and 18th-century buildings that vividly depict historical Dutch life. Then visit a local shoemaker and watch clog-making techniques firsthand.
2. Next, enjoy a short boat ride to Volendam and Marken. In these authentic fishing villages, locals still wear their colorful traditional dresses and the old wooden houses stand on stilts.
3. After seeing the villages of Volendam, head to a local cheese factory for a demonstration and tasting of cheese crafted in the traditional Dutch way.
4. Return by coach to Amsterdam, where you have free time to relax and have lunch (own expense) before starting your tour of Keukenhof Gardens.
5. Board the coach and together with your guide, then admire the countryside landscapes on the drive to Keukenhof, passing colorful tulip fields along the way. En route, hear about the history of Keukenhof and the flower fields that are characteristic of the surrounding area. Upon arrival, enjoy free time to explore the Keukenhof Gardens (more than 80 acres/32 hectares) on your own, with a provided map that gives you the gardens’ highlights, including sculptural installations. Wander along windy paths, into greenhouses, along brooks and shady ponds. Admire the swathes of colors from the blossoming tulips, daffodils, bluebells, hyacinths, and others.
6. When it’s time to leave, board your coach for the return trip to Amsterdam.
