The Tower was built in the 14th century, precisely in the medieval period, as part of the defensive walls of the city of Alghero. This is the only remaining part of the city walls on the land side, which were completely demolished after 1867. A good way to start our exploration

The church of San Francesco is one of the most significant examples of Gothic-Catalan architecture in Sardinia. Built by the Conventual Friars Minor at the end of the 15th century, the church stands on the site of a small chapel preceded by a vegetable garden. 3. Museo Archeologico della Citta di Alghero

The Archaeological Museum of Alghero, also commonly known as “Musa”, is located in a 15th-16th century building in the heart of the city’s historic center, next to the church of S. Michele. The museum’s collection includes finds that testify to the first human settlements in the area, from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages, discovered during excavations both inside and outside the urban center.

4. Chiesa di San Michele

The Church of Saint Michael is one of the main places of worship in Alghero and one of the most important examples of Baroque art in Sardinia. Its famous dome, one of the most recognizable symbols of the city.

7. Torre dell'Espero Rejal

The Sperone Tower takes its name from the presence of an adjacent rocky spur, which was part of the city’s network of fortifications. This tower is called by several names, one of which is Torre de l’Esperó Reial in Catalan.

Located at the end of the Bastioni Cristoforo Colombo, the Tower of Saint James stands out for its unmistakable octagonal shape.
