Overview

With Mysterium Tours®, spend approx. 2-hours exploring the exterior of the Buda castle district by night and listen to gruesome historical facts and the bloody side of Hungarian history in the XV-XVII century, and learn the myths of Vlad Dracula and the blood countess Elizabeth Báthory. Finally your Storyteller will tell you Hungarian folktales and vampire stories of the 19° century. Away from the crowds of Pest, this informative and entertaining tour, guided by a professional actor in period costume, takes you to some of the charming, magical places of the city: the Buda castle courts. This activity is an immersive storytelling experiences about legends, dark medieval history, tales and folklore. The tour is more ideal for adults and youth. If you wish to bring your children, they can go for free (up to 6 years old). Also note this tour starts from the bottom and temporarily includes a stairway leading up the castle district.

Meeting and Pickup

Meeting point

Meeting Point is at the Zero Kilometre Stone in Clark Adam Square. Buda side of the Chain Bridge, at the bottom of the castle hill, a few meters away from the funicular entrance. Look for your storyteller who will be wearing a period outfit and carrying an oil lantern

Redemption Instructions

The tour starts from the meeting point at the Kilometre Zero Stone which is located at the bottom of the Buda castle hill, by the funicular entrance (Clark Adam Square), a few meters away from the Chain Bridge (Buda side). Temporarily instead of the slope (the original route) the tour includes the steps to reach the castle. If you wish not to walk up the hill, you can consider taking the funicular and meeting the group at the “Fountain of the Fishing Children“, a few meters away from the funicular. In this case please meet the tour guide at the meeting point and ask for instructions.

Itinerary

1. Visiting one of the most beautiful lookout to the Danube river while stopping and listening to histories of old Hungary.
2. We’ll stop at the majestic terrace with the equestrian statue of prince Eugene of Savoy, one of the most successful military commanders in modern European history. You will listen to more histories while taking the possibility to take photos from the top of the hill.

3. Stopping by one of the courts of the Buda Castle, admiring the fountain of King Matthias and the surrounding palaces lit after dark, while listening to tales of vampires and dark folklore.

4. Walking around the medieval walls and ruins of the ancient castle
Duration: 30 mins
5. Walking around, getting enchanted by the panorama while listening to stories of medieval Hungary.
6. Enjoying the beautiful nightly panorama from the top of the hill.
