Itinerary
1. The Bassin des Lumières in Bordeaux is the largest digital art center in the world, housed in a former WWII submarine base. It features immersive exhibitions where art is projected onto vast walls reflected in the surrounding water, creating a stunning visual and sensory experience.
2. The Cité du Vin in Bordeaux is a unique cultural center dedicated to the world of wine, offering an immersive journey through its history, culture, and global significance. Its interactive exhibits, tastings, and panoramic views celebrate wine as a universal heritage.To enjoy free access to both the permanent tour and the belvedere for a wine tasting.
3. The Musée Mer Marine in Bordeaux is dedicated to maritime history, exploring humanity's relationship with the sea through diverse exhibits. It features ship models, nautical artifacts, and interactive displays that highlight maritime exploration, navigation, and marine biodiversity.
4. The Musée d'Aquitaine in Bordeaux showcases the rich history and heritage of the Aquitaine region, from prehistoric times to the modern era. Its extensive collections include artifacts, artworks, and exhibits highlighting regional archaeology, the Atlantic slave trade, and Bordeaux's cultural evolution.
5. A contemporary approach to natural history accompanied by interactive mechanisms and a multimedia spectacle.
6. The museum allows visitors to take a close look at masters of European art (Matisse, Picasso, Renoir, Rubens...) as well as Bordeaux’s native painters (André Lhote, Odilon Redon…). The south wing is dedicated to classical 16th to 18th century painting and the north wing hosts 19th and 20th century art. Located in front of the city hall gardens, the gallery hosts the major temporary exhibitions.
7. Housed in a former warehouse for colonial goods, the Museum of Contemporary Art is dedicated to emerging contemporary work. The permanent exhibition,‘Thus, it was written’ offers a selection of work from forty artists dating from the 1960’s to the present day.
8. Situated to the south-east of the chevet of the Cathedral of Saint-André at Bordeaux, the tower of Pey-Berland serves as its bell tower, built in the 15th century in the Gothic style. Its isolation was due to the wish to provide the Cathedral with magnificent bells which would not threaten the structure with their vibrations. Designated world heritage site by UNESCO.
9. The Port Cailhau, thirty-five metres tall, was integrated into the city walls. In 1864, it was rented by a public letter writer and a person whose job was to weigh salt. They were both evicted in order to renovate the monument. There is a magnificent view of the oldest bridge in Bordeaux, the Pont de Pierre, from here.
10. Taking up residence in MECA - the new regional centre for the creative and cultural economy, designedby the architect Bjarke Ingels
