Itinerary
1. The Grosse Cloche is one of the oldest belfries in France, dating back to the 15th century. It was part of the old city hall and served as a gateway to the medieval city, playing a crucial role in Bordeaux's civic life.
2. The Basilique Saint-Michel is a Gothic basilica that dates back to the 14th.
3. The Porte de Bourgogne, or Burgundy Gate, was constructed in the mid-18th century (around 1750) as part of the city's defensive structures. It symbolizes the city's historical development and its strategic importance as a gateway.
4. Built in 1495, the Porte Cailhau was constructed to commemorate King Charles VIII’s victory at the Battle of Fornovo. It served as the main entrance to the city from the river and was a critical part of Bordeaux's defensive walls.
5. The Bordeaux Cathedral dates back to the 11th century, though most of the current structure was built between the 12th and 14th centuries.
6. Constructed between 1730 and 1775, the Place de la Bourse was designed by the architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel during the reign of King Louis XV.
7. Designed by architect Victor Louis, the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux is an outstanding example of 18th-century neoclassical architecture. Completed in 1780, its grand façade features a colonnade of 12 Corinthian columns topped by statues of the nine Muses and three goddesses (Juno, Venus, and Minerva).
8. The Place des Quinconces is one of the largest city squares in Europe, covering approximately 12 hectares (30 acres).
