Itinerary

1. Kinvarra
This beautiful coastal village of Kinvarra is set against the beautiful backdrop of the Galway Bay. Once a busy port, it is now a pretty fishing village. It is ideal setting to experience the relaxed rural pace of life. Here we can view Irelands largest thatch roof at the Merriman Hotel. Just north of Kinvarra, you can visit a 16th-century tower house. Dunguaire was bought and repaired in the early 20th century by Oliver St John Gogarty. Gogarty was a famous surgeon and literary figure of his time. Many literary revivalists, a movement of Irish literature, met here, including W.B. Yeats. The restored castle offers a window into the past. Learn about the castle’s history and residents, from humble beginnings in the 16th century all the way to modern times. Entrance fee required to visit the castle and is seasonal. Kinvarra and Dunguaire Castle are optional choices for our day depending on the other locations chosen*

2. Dunguaire Castle's
Kinvarra's famous Tower House Castle. See above for details. We do have an option to include this on the tour (season depending). Currently the castle is undergoing an ownership change so entrance is not open to the public. If you would like to stop for external photos please do let your driver know in advance.
3. Hazel Mountain Chocolates
The award winning Hazel Mountain Chocolaterie Farmhouse. Please tell your driver if this is one of the choices from the itinerary that you would like to visit.

4. The Burren National Park
The landscape of the Burren has been shaped by geological forces for hundreds of millions of years. The story begins in a tropical sea near the equator, includes the development of a major river delta, migration and collision of continents, the expansion and contraction of the polar ice caps and last but not least, the rain that sweeps in from the Atlantic. The rocks that make up the Burren were all formed during the Carboniferous period between 359 and 299 million years ago. In the Burren are there are two major rock types; the lighter coloured limestones to the north and east and the darker siltstones, shales and sandstones to the south west. The limestones which make up the typical bare Burren landscape were buried by the slightly younger siltstones and sandstones which make up the Cliffs of Moher. We have lots of opportunities for wonderful photo stops along the Wild Atlantic Way in the Burren Geopark.

5. Caherconnell Stone Fort & Sheepdog Demonstrations
Come and see the captivating collies, showcase their skills in daily demonstrations against the backdrop of the 1,000 year old fort, perfectly preserved and still yielding fascinating treasures.It is a privilege to have you visit us for a truly indigenous experience – our wonderful border collies are all born and trained here by the maestro dog whisperer John Davoren. Our tours of the ringfort and farm open a window to the extraordinary lives, past and present, here at Caherconnell Fort. Please tell your driver if this is an option that you would like to select to participate in. This event is seasonal! We look forward to welcoming you and sharing the Caherconnell adventure with you. Further hidden walks and trails, traverse classic Burren landscape providing stunning views at every turn. Caherconnell Stone Fort & Sheepdog Demonstrations is one of the options we can choose from our list of sites to visit on this private tour (seasonal & time allowing).

6. Cliffs of Moher
One of Ireland’s favourite visitor experiences, the Cliffs of Moher tower over the rugged west Clare coast. Walk the safe, paved pathways and view the famous Cliffs on Europe’s western frontier and enjoy the spectacular vistas over the Atlantic Ocean and the Aran Islands. Their natural beauty has inspired artists, musicians, and poets for generations, as well as absorbing scientists and geologists, drawn by the unique landscape in which they sit. The Cliffs of Moher, the most famous cliffs in Ireland, will leave you awestruck, creating memories that will stay with you forever. The Cliffs of Moher host major colonies of nesting sea birds including Puffins is one of the country’s most important bird-breeding sites. The area has been designated a Special Protection Area (SPA) for Birds. Experience the magical Cliffs of Moher with Liberty Irish Tours for memories that will last a lifetime.

7. Bunratty Castle and Folk Park
