Itinerary

1. Ysterplaat Aerodrome
This Area is situated very near the City of Cape Town. 'Ysterplaat, is Afrikaans for Iron Plate. This is where our Military Air Force base is. This is also where our President and Ministers land when they come to Cape Town.
2. Canal Walk Shopping Centre
It is the largest shopping Centre in the city. Built in what the developers call "Cape Venetian architecture", the shopping Centre hosts over 400 stores, 7,000 parking bays, numerous restaurants etc. It's the third biggest shopping Centre in the country.
3. Paarl
Paarl means 'Pearl' in Afrikaans. With approximately 300 000 inhabitants, this town is known for its scenic environment, viticulture and fruit-growing heritage. It's the largest town in the Cape Winelands district. Paarl gained additional international attention when, on 11 February 1990, Nelson Mandela walked, with live international television coverage, out of Victor Verster Correctional Centre ( known as Drakenstein Correctional Centre today) in Paarl ending his 27 years of imprisonment, and beginning a course to South Africa's post-apartheid era and, notably, to multi-racial elections. Mandela spent three years in prison here living in a private house within the walls. Today, a bronze statue of Mandela stands outside the prison.
4. Huguenot Tunnel
The Huguenot Tunnel provides a route that is safer, faster and shorter than the old Du Toitskloof Pass travelling over the mountain. An idea for a tunnel through the Du Toitskloof Mountains was conceived in the 1930s but was put on hold due to the outbreak of World War II. The idea developed into a pass over the mountains, the Du Toitskloof pass, using the labour of Italian prisoners of war between 1942 and 1945 and continued with ordinary labor until its completion in 1948. It is about 4kms long, which makes it the longest tunnel in the country. There is a Tollgate where you pay to go through the tunnel. It is 1 of 2 Tollgates in the Western Province.
5. Worcester
Founded in 1820, with a population of 200 000, this small town is the largest wine producing in South Africa. It contributes almost 25% of the country's viticultural output. It is culturally rich with a historic heart. Worcester also played a big role in the English civil war, and the resting place of King John at the Worcester Cathedral. We will make a stop at the gas station on the highway for toilet break.
