Itinerary
1. Start with Amsterdam's most legendary apple pie at this 400-year-old brown café. Paired with your choice of coffee, cappuccino, or tea, you'll discover why this family recipe has attracted locals and visitors (including Bill Clinton) for generations.
2. Jordaan, one of Amsterdam’s most characterful neighborhoods, was once home to workers, artists, and migrants. Its narrow streets and canals tell stories of resilience, creativity, and community that continue to shape daily life today.
3. Taste fresh herring and crispy kibbeling at a classic Dutch fishmonger. Watch skilled fishmongers prepare the herring in the open back area while soaking up authentic local atmosphere.
4. Taste a selection of organic Gouda cheeses at historic Café de Poort. This traditional brown café offers a warm, authentic setting to enjoy the rich flavors of Dutch cheese at different stages of aging.
5. Walk along one of Amsterdam's most beautiful canals, admiring the stunning 17th-century architecture while your guide shares stories of the city's Golden Age and its influence on Dutch cuisine.
6. De Gangen Willemstraat, known as "the hallways" or "the slums," were once home to the city’s poorest residents. Cramped and overcrowded, these narrow alleys behind the houses were plagued by disease and hunger.
7. Discover a unique catering shop where women share their culinary heritage. Here, Mama Jane serves her homemade Surinamese rotirol, a flavorful highlight among authentic home-cooked meals from around the world.
8. Stop by and enjoy a classic Dutch treat. Watch as fluffy poffertjes are made fresh on the griddle, then served warm with butter and powdered sugar. A sweet taste of the Netherlands!
9. View the exterior of this poignant historical site as your guide provides context about Amsterdam during WWII and its impact on the city's culture and cuisine.
10. End your tour at Café Dialoog with crispy bitterballen and a smooth glass of jenever. Enjoy this classic Dutch pairing in a cozy, nostalgic brown café beloved by locals.
