Overview

Discovery, in French, of the history and heritage of the city by a guide with a Master's degree in history working for the city's Tourist Office in parallel with an independent activity. Local history as well as the more general context are provided by an enthusiast who has pursued studies in the field and has worked as a guide for several years in Nancy. Pedagogy is at the center of my attention and I take particular care to adapt to the public who follows the tour, whether they are novices or experts. Anecdotes, details, curiosities are all elements that make the tours attractive and that I enjoy sharing. In an hour and a half, small and big history come together for a friendly moment of sharing and culture.

Itinerary

1. Stanislas Leszczynski who sits proudly in the center of the Place of the same name is both King of Poland, Duke of Lorraine and father-in-law of the King of France, Louis XV. It was he who commissioned the construction of this Baroque-style Place Royale, inaugurated in the middle of the 18th century. Jean Lamour's rococo railings form a golden setting around this character with an extraordinary destiny.
Duration: 30 mins
2. Built at the end of the 16th century within the city walls, the Quarry was used to train the riders of the dukes whose stables were located a few steps away, in an adjacent alleyway that has lost none of its charm. Duke Leopold and then Stanislas embellished the square and built a coherent architectural ensemble whose splendor has come down to us.
Duration: 15 mins
3. This is the street that, historically, was the liveliest in the Old Town and this since medieval times. It has never changed its name. The Basilica of Saint-Epvre, the Palace of the Dukes of Lorraine, the Church of the Cordeliers and the Porte de la Craffe are all elements that we can admire by letting our steps lead us through it.
Duration: 20 mins
4. The 22 hectares of the Parc de la Pépinière constitute the green lung of the city and are home to some wonders, some plant-based, like the centuries-old trees it shelters, others mineral like this statue of Claude le Lorrain made by Rodin, and others finally made of steel. Indeed, the Mozart kiosk calls us to it and invites us to daydream and contemplation.
Duration: 10 mins
