4. Cây Đa xóm Chùa
The banyan tree (Ficus superba var. japonica Miq.), locally known as “cây đa Xóm Chùa”, rises proudly to a height of over 15 meters, with a massive canopy that provides shade to an entire gathering space below. Its trunk—over 4.3 meters in diameter—bears witness to centuries of natural and human history. Once located next to a village pagoda (hence the name “Xóm Chùa” or “Pagoda Hamlet”), the tree has long been a spiritual and cultural anchor in the lives of villagers. During wartime, the hollow of the tree offered shelter to local resistance fighters. Though the banyan was targeted with explosives, it survived and grew stronger, becoming a symbol of perseverance for generations. Today, the banyan tree remains a cherished part of the village’s daily life. Children play in its shade, elders gather to rest and share stories, and community rituals occasionally take place nearby.
