Overview

The Hokkaido Rail Pass is exclusively offered to foreign tourists coming to Japan. It provides you with five, seven or ten days of unlimited travel on all JR Hokkaido train lines excluding Hokkaido Shinkansen. This pass also allows rides on some designated JR buses within Hokkaido.

- Children under 5 years are free of charge.

Good to know:

- Pass valid for international travelers only.

- Travelers may use the automatic ticket gates, manual ticketing will not be required.

- Seats reservations can be made at the designated JR Hokkaido stations or line reservation.

- Hokkaido Rail Pass is valid for five, seven or ten consecutive days from after the first use.

- All participants must present their passports (original copy) for ticket redemption, and the representative’s name for group bookings must match the name entered during the booking process. If the names do not match, the pass cannot be redeemed.

This is pass valid on:

- All JR Hokkaido Lines (except Hokkaido Shinkansen) .

- Reserved seats in ordinary car of limited express trains on JR Hokkaido Line.

- Reserved seats of special rapid and rapid trains on JR Hokkaido Line.

- Local trains on JR Hokkaido Line.

- Reserved seats of temporary trains (limited express/ rapid/ local) on JR Hokkaido Line.

- Hokkaido Rail Pass can be used toward on all JR Hokkaido train lines with the exception of Hokkaido Shinkansen. Hokkaido Rail Pass cannot be used on lines of other companies such as South Hokkaido Railway, Sapporo Municipal Subway, etc.

- Hokkaido Rail Pass holders cannot ride the Hokkaido Shinkansen Hayabusa and Hayate trains. If you wish to ride the Hokkaido Shinkansen, you will be required to purchase a separate Basic fare ticket, Limited express ticket, etc.

- Hokkaido Rail Pass holders cannot take the “South Hokkaido Railway”. A separate ticket will be required when taking the train.

- Hokkaido Rail Pass holders cannot take the reserved seats of SL Paleo Express. A separate ticket will be required when taking the train.
