You’ll entertain all your group with interesting questions, while still teaching them fun facts about the city. Your mission (should you choose to accept it): Jackson Wilde, the famous city-explorer, needs your help… Help him solve quizzes to gather as many points as possible. With this activity, you will be guided through the 10 following locations: Fresque des Lyonnais, Place des Terreaux, Opera, Palais de la Bourse, Jacobins Fountain, Courthouse Footbridge, Cathedral, Longue Traboule, Ancient Theatre, and Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière. Download the app on Android or iOS (or access it directly through your browser) to get access to a fun mission, multiple quizzes, as well as city guides about each monument. Itinerary
1. The Place des Terreaux dates back to the 17th century. It was initially part of the city's fortifications and later transformed into a public square.
2. As one of France's leading opera houses, the Lyon National Opera is known for its high-quality productions of opera, ballet, and classical music concerts.
3. Constructed between 1855 and 1862, the Palais de la Bourse served as the headquarters for the Lyon Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It was a symbol of Lyon's economic strength and its importance as a commercial and financial hub during the 19th century.
4. The Fontaine des Jacobins was constructed between 1878 and 1885.
5. The Passerelle du Palais-de-Justice offers stunning views of the Saône River and the cityscape of Lyon, including landmarks such as the Palais de Justice (Law Courts) and the Fourvière Hill.
6. Construction of the cathedral began in 1180 and continued for several centuries, with major parts completed by the 15th century.
7. Traboules date back to the Renaissance and even earlier. They were originally built to provide residents with direct access to water sources, like the Saône River, and later to facilitate the silk trade.
8. The theatre dates back to Roman times, specifically built around 15 BC under the reign of Emperor Augustus. It is one of the oldest Roman theaters in France.
9. The Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière is an architectural masterpiece that combines Byzantine and Romanesque styles. Designed by Pierre Bossan, its unique design features four octagonal towers and a richly decorated façade.
