Itinerary
1. Welcome to the stunning Sintra Mountains, a breathtaking landscape stretching across the horizons of Portugal. This majestic mountain range, located just a few kilometers from Lisbon, is a natural and cultural treasure that attracts travelers from all over the world. The Sintra Mountains, with their rugged terrain and lush vegetation, offer visitors a truly unique experience. Here, you’ll find a harmonious blend of vibrant nature and the rich history that defines the region. The range is a mosaic of green hills, picturesque valleys, and fascinating rock formations that date back to ancient times.
2. The Sabuga Fountain in Sintra is a natural spring rich in minerals such as calcium and magnesium. It is known for its therapeutic properties, beneficial for the skin, muscles, and respiratory system — which explains the historical popularity of baths and treatments at the site. Steeped in local history and tradition, a visit to the fountain also offers insight into Sintra’s cultural heritage.
3. Welcome to the Moorish Castle, an ancient fortress perched atop the Sintra Mountains. Built during the Moorish occupation, its sturdy walls and towers tell stories of battles and military strategy. From its ramparts, enjoy panoramic views of rolling hills stretching all the way to the sea. Please note that this will be only a brief stop — we will not visit the castle’s interior, and entrance tickets are not included.
4. Get ready to visit Sintra’s most iconic landmark — Pena Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site perched atop the mountain. Your experience includes the Essential Ticket, with access to the palace interior and surrounding park. Your guide will accompany the group throughout the visit, sharing historical context and local insights while you explore this extraordinary site.
5. Piriquita Pastry Shop is a landmark in the charming town of Sintra, Portugal. Founded in 1862, this traditional bakery is famous for its delicious treats, especially the iconic travesseiros and queijadas. Located in the heart of Sintra, Piriquita attracts both tourists and locals with the irresistible aroma of its freshly baked pastries. The travesseiros, made with crisp puff pastry and filled with a rich egg cream, are a beloved specialty. The queijadas, with their soft texture and delicate flavor, are another irresistible temptation for dessert lovers.
6. Next, we’ll explore Sintra’s historic centre on foot, walking through its charming and emblematic streets. We’ll stop at Piriquita — one of the most famous pastry shops in the world — where you can taste the region’s unique traditional sweets. You’ll also have the chance to enjoy a ginjinha and browse local and internationally renowned artisan crafts.
7. Shared Tour (or Private Tour with 1 Ticket) During the journey through Sintra, we’ll make a 15-minute stop for photos outside the mysterious Quinta da Regaleira. At this point, your guide will share fascinating stories about its history and symbolism. To ensure the day’s itinerary runs smoothly, please note that only the exterior visit is included. Interior access is not possible on this shared tour. Private Tour (with 2 Tickets Included) With the exclusivity of a private tour, you’ll enjoy a guided visit inside the enigmatic Quinta da Regaleira. Explore its mystical gardens, uncover the secrets of the Initiation Well, and admire its symbolic architecture up close — all with the dedicated attention of your personal guide.
8. The Monserrate Palace is a 19th-century architectural gem in the Sintra Mountains, blending Gothic Revival, Moorish, and Indian styles. Commissioned by Sir Francis Cook in 1858, it dazzles with its exotic façades and lush gardens filled with plants from around the world. Please note that we will not visit the interior of the palace, and entrance tickets are not included.
9. Discover Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Portugal — and of continental Europe. Take this opportunity to capture stunning photos at the “end of Europe,” where the vast ocean stretches endlessly into the horizon.
10. Welcome to the stunning Guincho Road, a scenic stretch that runs between Cascais and Guincho Beach. This coastal route offers a unique driving experience, combining the natural beauty of the shoreline with a sense of adventure. The Guincho Road winds along the cliffs of the Atlantic coast, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the ocean and the surrounding landscape. The Atlantic stretches as far as the eye can see, creating a sense of vastness and freedom as you drive. As you travel along the road, you’ll feel the sea breeze on your face, connecting you directly with nature. The gentle curves of the route follow the coastal terrain, providing a thrilling and unforgettable driving experience.
11. A brief stop at one of the most famous beaches along the Sintra–Cascais coastline, where golden sands meet the powerful Atlantic waves. Enjoy a few moments to admire the breathtaking scenery, feel the ocean breeze, and capture memorable photos of this iconic coastal gem.
12. The name “Boca do Inferno” (Hell’s Mouth) was given to this site due to its striking rock formation and the powerful, thunderous impact of the waves crashing against the cliffs — creating a dramatic and awe-inspiring natural spectacle.
13. Welcome to the Santa Marta Lighthouse, an iconic landmark in the beautiful coastal city of Cascais. This historic lighthouse has played a key role in navigation and maritime safety over the years and remains a defining symbol of the region. The Santa Marta Lighthouse is an elegant seaside structure that stands gracefully by the water’s edge. Its tall, distinctive tower serves as a vital reference point for sailors navigating the Atlantic waters. There’s something poetic about its characteristic light, guiding mariners through the night and in challenging weather conditions.
14. Known as the Portuguese Riviera or the “Sunset of Europe,” the town of Cascais truly has its own charm — it’s hard to find anyone who hasn’t fallen in love with its peaceful streets, elegant seaside mansions, or the colorful fishing boats gently resting by the shore.
