Itinerary

1. Chincoteague Island Waterman's Memorial
Travelers will visit the Chincoteague Island Waterman’s Memorial, a poignant tribute honoring the island’s generations of fishermen, oystermen, and boat captains. From the water, guests will see the memorial’s distinctive statue and hear the stories of the hardworking watermen who built Chincoteague’s maritime heritage. This stop offers a glimpse into the island’s cultural roots and provides a meaningful photo opportunity against the backdrop of the harbor.
2. Wallops Island
From the water, travelers will get a unique view of Wallops Island, home to NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility and NOAA operations. Your captain will share fascinating insights into the island’s role in rocket launches, aerospace research, and weather monitoring. While you can’t step on the island itself, seeing the launch pads, tracking towers, and research facilities from the water offers a rare perspective on one of the Eastern Shore’s most important scientific hubs.
3. Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge
From the water, travelers will experience the stunning Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, a protected haven for wild ponies, migratory birds, and diverse coastal wildlife. Your guide will highlight the refuge’s rich history and its vital role in conservation, while you enjoy panoramic views of pristine beaches, marshlands, and maritime forests. Keep your camera ready—this is one of the best spots to see wild ponies grazing, eagles soaring, and other wildlife in their natural habitat.
4. Assateague Lighthouse
Travelers will see the iconic Assateague Lighthouse, a striking red-and-white tower rising 142 feet above the island. From the water, guests can admire its historic beauty, learn about its 1867 construction, and hear stories of how it has guided mariners for over a century. The view offers fantastic photo opportunities, with the lighthouse framed by pristine shoreline, salt marshes, and often wildlife like egrets and ospreys flying nearby.
