Overview
Experience the tumultuous history of the French Republic by exploring the Conciergerie. Initially constructed as a royal residence in the 14th century, it transformed into a prison after the monarchy relocated. During the French Revolution, this facility earned its reputation as "the antechamber to the guillotine." Investigate both the cells that housed criminals and memorials for heroes from the Revolution. Visit the chapel that served as Marie Antoinette's prison cell and witness Europe’s largest preserved medieval hall, known as Salle des Gens d’Armes. Opt to use an histopad for your journey, allowing you to immerse yourself in history through this augmented reality device. Delve into medieval chambers alongside areas that have since vanished from sight.

Itinerary
1. Situated in the center of Paris along the Seine River, the Conciergerie is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and stands as one of the oldest remnants of the Palais de la Cité, which served as both residence and seat of power for French monarchs during the Middle Ages. Transformed into a prison for the Parliament of Paris towards the late 14th century, it continued to play a significant role as an incarceration facility throughout the French Revolution with the establishment of the Revolutionary Court. Among its most notable inmates was Marie-Antoinette. During the Restoration period in the 19th century, a memorial chapel was erected on her cell’s site and is included in guided tours.
