The Greeks believed this area was the entrance to the underworld, and the Sibyl of Cumae prophesied here. The Romans later built luxurious villas, the first amphitheater, and impressive aqueducts. It’s also a place of Christian history, with St. Gennaro’s beheading and St. Paul’s arrival on his way to Rome.
