Itinerary

1. Hammond Castle Museum
Perched dramatically on the rocky coastline of Gloucester, Hammond Castle looks as though it was transported stone by stone from medieval Europe and placed above the Atlantic. Built in the 1920s by inventor John Hays Hammond Jr., the castle blends Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance architectural elements into one extraordinary seaside retreat. From its stone archways and stained glass windows to its soaring Great Hall and ocean-facing terraces, every corner reveals craftsmanship and history layered with coastal beauty. Inside, guests discover an eclectic collection of European artifacts, carved woodwork, and architectural pieces gathered from across Europe, all thoughtfully integrated into the structure. The castle’s courtyard, cloisters, and dramatic ocean views create a setting that feels both romantic and unexpected. It is one of New England’s most unique landmarks — a place where innovation, art, and medieval design meet the Atlantic in unforgettable fashion.
Duration: 90 mins
2. Gloucester
In Gloucester, one of America’s oldest working seaports, guests will enjoy a scenic drive through this historic coastal town known for its classic New England architecture and maritime heritage. You’ll visit the iconic Fisherman’s Memorial, honoring generations who “went down to the sea in ships,” and have free time for lunch at a waterfront restaurant of your choice. Guests may also take up to 30 minutes to stroll the harbor, browse local shops, and explore on foot before continuing the journey.
Duration: 90 mins
3. Castle Hill on the Crane Estate
Rising above the Atlantic coastline, Castle Hill at the Crane Estate is one of New England’s most spectacular seaside properties. Built during the early 20th century, the estate commands sweeping views of the ocean from its dramatic hilltop setting. The iconic Grand Allée — a half-mile rolling lawn framed by sculpted trees — stretches toward the horizon, creating one of the most photographed landscapes in Massachusetts. Its striking beauty has made it a favored backdrop for major Hollywood films and television productions. Beyond the mansion, the estate’s formal gardens, fountains, and coastal vistas evoke the elegance of America’s Gilded Age. Guests can wander the expansive grounds, feel the sea breeze, and take in uninterrupted ocean panoramas that seem to go on forever. Whether capturing unforgettable photos or simply standing in quiet appreciation of the view, Castle Hill delivers a truly iconic and cinematic New England experience.

The farm also features a market with local cheeses, baked goods, and wines, making it a delightful and relaxed stop along the North Shore.

Enjoy free time in the historic village of Ipswich, founded in 1634 and one of the oldest communities in America. Stroll quiet streets lined with preserved colonial architecture, browse local shops, and visit the Old Burial Ground, where centuries of early American history rest beneath weathered stone markers. Ipswich offers a peaceful glimpse into New England’s past and a charming break from the coastline.
