Itinerary

1. Step Pyramid of Djoser
Travel to the dawn of pyramid building at Saqqara, one of Egypt’s most remarkable archaeological sites. Explore the Step Pyramid Complex of King Djoser, a revolutionary monument built during the 27th century BC that transformed ancient Egyptian architecture and paved the way for the great pyramids of Giza. Designed under the supervision of the brilliant architect Imhotep, the pyramid rises in six distinctive tiers above a vast funerary complex of ceremonial courtyards and monumental gateways. Walk through the impressive entrance colonnade and discover the setting where royal rituals were performed thousands of years ago. Your Egyptologist guide will explain how the Step Pyramid evolved from earlier royal tombs and reveal the beliefs surrounding kingship, divine power, and the afterlife. Standing before this extraordinary structure, you’ll discover a fascinating chapter in the story of pyramid building, where the ambition and ingenuity of ancient Egypt first reached monumental heights.
Duration: 60 mins
2. Pyramid of Teti
Continue exploring Saqqara at the Pyramid of Teti, built around 4,300 years ago for Teti, the first king of Egypt’s Sixth Dynasty. Although its weathered exterior now resembles a natural mound, the pyramid hides a remarkable world beneath the surface. Descend into its burial chambers and discover the ancient Pyramid Texts, sacred inscriptions containing spells and rituals intended to help the king’s spirit reach the afterlife. Look up at the burial chamber’s ceiling, decorated with golden stars against a dark blue background, symbolizing the heavens and the pharaoh’s eternal journey. Your private Egyptologist guide will explain the meaning of these inscriptions and reveal how ancient Egyptians understood death, rebirth, and life beyond the earthly world. Inside this quiet monument, surrounded by ancient words and celestial imagery, you’ll encounter a deeply spiritual side of Egypt’s Old Kingdom that brings the beliefs of the pharaohs remarkably close.
Duration: 30 mins
3. Discover the ancient tombs of Saqqara, where decorated burial chambers reveal the daily life, craftsmanship, and afterlife beliefs of Egypt’s Old Kingdom. With standard Saqqara area admission, explore sites such as the Pyramid of Teti and the tombs of Kagemni, Ankhmahor, Ptahhotep, and Idut, where carved scenes depict farming, fishing, offerings, and everyday activities from more than 4,000 years ago. Your Egyptologist guide will help you understand these remarkable details and the beliefs that shaped the ancient Egyptians’ journey into eternity. Some additional attractions require separate tickets or a ticket upgrade, including the Tomb of Mereruka, the Serapeum, the interior of Djoser’s Step Pyramid, and certain Noble and New Kingdom tombs. Additional access can be arranged upon request.
Duration: 45 mins
4. Mit Rahina Museum
Continue to Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt and once a powerful political and religious center near the Nile. At the Memphis Open-Air Museum, discover remarkable surviving monuments from this legendary city, including the colossal limestone statue of Ramses II, displayed lying down beneath a protective shelter, and the magnificent alabaster Sphinx, carved from a single block of stone. Admire the royal statues, sculpted fragments, and archaeological remains that offer a glimpse into the grandeur of ancient Memphis. Your private Egyptologist guide will explain the city's importance, its connection to the god Ptah, and the legacy of the pharaohs who shaped its history. As you explore these impressive remains, you'll discover a fascinating contrast with the pyramids and tombs of nearby Saqqara—a chance to uncover the ancient city that helped shape the story of Egyptian civilization.
Duration: 30 mins
5. The Pyramids Of Giza
Stand before the legendary Pyramids of Giza and experience the awe of seeing these ancient wonders with your own eyes. Rising above the desert for more than 4,500 years, the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure reveal the extraordinary ambition of Egypt’s Old Kingdom. Walk across the plateau, admire the immense limestone blocks, and see how these monumental structures dominate the landscape. Your private Egyptologist guide will bring their stories to life, explaining their construction, royal significance, and the ancient beliefs about the journey into the afterlife. Enjoy time to explore, ask questions, and capture unforgettable photographs while discovering details you might otherwise overlook. As you stand at the foot of these colossal monuments, surrounded by the desert sky and the silence of the ancient plateau, the experience becomes deeply personal: a chance to move beyond the photographs and feel the remarkable scale of Egypt’s most iconic wonders for yourself.
Duration: 90 mins
6. Valley Temple of Khafre
Step inside the ancient Valley Temple of Khafre, one of the best-preserved monuments on the Giza Plateau and a remarkable window into the rituals of Egypt’s Old Kingdom. Built from enormous limestone blocks and polished red granite, this impressive structure formed part of King Khafre’s pyramid complex, where important funerary rites and purification ceremonies took place. As you explore its massive pillars, carefully fitted stone walls, and spacious chambers, your private Egyptologist guide will explain how the temple was connected to the pharaoh’s journey into the afterlife and the nearby Great Sphinx. Take a moment to appreciate the precision of the ancient stonework and imagine priests performing sacred ceremonies here more than 4,500 years ago. Walking through these ancient halls offers a more intimate encounter with the world of the pharaohs, revealing the craftsmanship, religious traditions, and royal power behind the monuments of Giza.
Duration: 15 mins
7. Great Sphinx
Come face to face with the Great Sphinx of Giza, the legendary guardian of the pyramid plateau and one of ancient Egypt’s most mysterious monuments. Carved directly from the limestone bedrock, this extraordinary figure combines the body of a lion with the head of a king, traditionally associated with Pharaoh Khafre. Walk closer to admire its enormous paws, weathered features, and enigmatic expression, which has captivated visitors for thousands of years. Your private Egyptologist guide will explain the Sphinx’s symbolism, its connection to the surrounding pyramids, and the enduring questions surrounding its original purpose. Take a moment to stand before this ancient masterpiece and imagine the countless generations who have gazed upon the same face. Seeing the Great Sphinx in person offers something photographs cannot capture: the extraordinary scale, the quiet atmosphere of the plateau, and the feeling of standing face to face with one of history’s most enduring mysteries.
