De Lakenhal has been the municipal art museum of Leiden since 1874. The museum, dedicated to both the history of the city of Leiden.

The Oude Rijn flows through Leiden before it flows into the sea a little further on. Thanks to the cloth industry, Leiden was one of the largest cities in the Northern Netherlands from the late Middle Ages until the 17th century.
