Overview

You cross the Swiss Grand Canyon. The natural scenery on this tour is breathtaking and unbeatable. Exploring the first city on the Rhine is very interesting and the history of this city will captivate you. The view towards Lake Cauma is unique. On this tour, you travel with a local travel companion and have the opportunity to adapt or help shape the tour somewhat, according to the information and with the help and advice of the travel companion. We will stop for photos or explanations upon request and if possible. There will be no shortage of great photo opportunities!

Meeting and Pickup

Meeting point

The train station is small and easy to navigate, and there's a pizzeria opposite the Station. After your tour, you could enjoy a nice dinner there, and during the summer months, you can also play mini-golf. Trains back to Chur depart hourly; the journey takes 18 minutes.

Pickup Information

The tour times are set at 13 h. We pick up our guests 5 minutes before 13 h from the hotel (in the defined zone) or by appointment in Bonaduz at the train station. Pick-ups from more distant locations can be arranged, Fr. 3. -/Km (up to 4 PAX) by appointment (at least one week in advance)

Itinerary

1. Reichenau
We accompany you to the small RhB (Rhaetian Railway) of Reichenau and take the train on the journey towards the Swiss Grand Canyon

2. Ruinaulta Rheinschlucht
You travel through the Swiss Grand Canyon on the Rhaetian Railway and let yourself be enchanted by the unique, unreal landscape.
Duration: 30 mins
3. Burg Wackenau
The ruins of Wackenau Castle are located in the municipality of Bonaduz in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. The sparse ruins of the former Spornburg lie at 630 m above sea level. M. about three kilometers northwest of the community in a typical spur position above a loop of the Vorderrhein. You can photograph the subject from the train
4. Ilanz
We will meet you at Ilanz train station and we will set off on a walk through the beautiful “first city on the Rhine”.

5. Museum Regiunal Surselva
The Regiunal Surselva Museum takes us back to the pre-industrial world, which was economically determined by crafts, agriculture and housekeeping. The permanent exhibition in the historic Casa Carniec shows on seven floors how people in earlier times managed their existence and how they organized themselves in families and village communities.

6. Laax
After visiting Ilanz, we drive towards Flims, past picturesque villages such as Schluein and Laax. In Laax you can see the valley station of the famous Crap Sogn Gion ski area and the newly created rock resort made of Vals granite, then you continue to Lake Cauma.

7. Caumasee
You visit Lake Cauma in Flims. Lake Cauma (Romansh Lag la Cauma, sometimes Lai da Cauma) is located in the uninhabited southern part of the municipality of Flims in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. It lies at an altitude of around 997 m with a seasonally fluctuating level and is accessible by a specially built funicular. The water of Lake Cauma is a striking turquoise green. It is also noteworthy that the westernmost bay of the lake does not freeze over in winter, despite its height above sea level and the lake's location in a cold air lake; The reason can be assumed that the lake is flowed through by powerful underground springs, which obviously have their origin in this part of the lake. The drainage is also underground. The water level is subject to considerable fluctuations; in 2015 the lake rose by at least 4 meters and 30 centimeters. The lake reaches its highest level in mid/late July, which roughly corresponds to the end of the snowmelt in the surrounding mountains.

8. Bonaduz
We will return to the starting point of our journey. We will say goodbye to you at Bonaduz train station, where we also greeted you at the beginning of our trip, or, depending on the agreement, take you back to your hotel.
