Itinerary

1. St. Peter's Square
• Your experience begins in St. Peter’s Square, one of the most iconic public spaces in the world, where you’ll meet your expert guide and fellow travellers. • As you stand beneath Bernini’s grand colonnades, your guide will introduce you to the history, symbolism, and hidden meanings of the square, from the massive Egyptian obelisk at its centre to the embracing arms of the columns that represent the Church welcoming the world. • You will then join the mandatory security queue required for all visitors entering St. Peter’s Basilica. While waiting, your guide will turn this time into part of the experience, sharing fascinating stories about the Vatican, the construction of the Basilica, and the popes and artists who shaped it. • Depending on the season, the wait can be brief or longer during peak periods, but your guide ensures this time is informative and engaging, helping you understand what you’re about to see before stepping inside one of the most important churches on Earth.
Duration: 30 mins
2. St. Peter's Basilica
• Once inside St. Peter’s Basilica, you’ll step into the largest church in the world, where art, faith, and history come together on a breath-taking scale. • Your guide will lead you through the vast interior, helping you understand the meaning behind the Basilica’s architecture, artwork, and sacred spaces. You’ll admire Michelangelo’s Pietà, one of the most moving sculptures ever created, while learning the story behind its creation and why it remains one of the Vatican’s greatest masterpieces. • As you continue through the Basilica, your guide will explain the significance of Bernini’s Baldachin, the monumental bronze canopy standing beneath the Dome and marking the high altar, built directly above the tomb of St. Peter. You’ll discover how popes, artists, and architects collaborated over centuries to create this extraordinary space. • Throughout the visit, there will be moments to pause, observe, and take photos, allowing you to fully absorb the grandeur and spiritual atmosphere.
Duration: 60 mins
3. The Vatican Grottoes
• After exploring the Basilica, you’ll descend beneath the main altar into the Vatican Grottoes, a quiet and solemn area located below St. Peter’s Basilica. • Here, your guide will explain the importance of this sacred space, where many former popes are laid to rest, along with significant religious figures connected to the history of the Church. As you walk through the grottoes, you’ll learn how this underground level reflects the earliest history of the Vatican and its connection to St. Peter, one of Christ’s apostles. • The atmosphere here is calm and reflective, offering a powerful contrast to the grandeur above. Your guide will provide historical and spiritual context, helping you understand why this area remains one of the most meaningful parts of the Vatican. • Visitors are encouraged to move respectfully through the grottoes, taking time to absorb the silence, history, and significance of the place before continuing to the next part of the experience.
Duration: 30 mins
4. St. Peter's Basilica
St. Peter’s Dome Climb. • The experience continues with access to St. Peter’s Dome, one of the most iconic viewpoints in Rome. • After entering the Dome, you’ll first admire the interior view from above, looking down into the Basilica from a unique balcony beneath Michelangelo’s magnificent cupola. Your guide will explain the symbolism, scale, and engineering behind the Dome before the climb continues upward. • You’ll then ascend to the top of the Dome, using an elevator for part of the journey followed by a series of steps. The final stretch is narrow and steep, adding to the sense of adventure and achievement as you make your way upward. • At the summit, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views over Vatican City and Rome. From this height, you can see St. Peter’s Square, the Vatican Gardens, the Tiber River, and Rome’s historic skyline stretching in every direction. • Enjoy the view and take photos before descending, completing an unforgettable journey of the Basilica
