Overview

The bigger the group, the better the day! Join us on a full-day adventure from Sydney to Port Stephens and Anna Bay, with massive sand dunes, stunning beaches and a rewarding Mount Tomaree hike. At just $139, it’s an easy way to escape the city, meet new mates and experience the coast. Spend 1+ hours at Stockton Beach, part of Australia’s largest moving sand dune system. Relax on the beach, explore the dunes, or enjoy optional activities such as a 4WD dune safari with sandboarding from $40 pp or a camel ride from $50 pp. These activities are not included in the $139 tour price and can be booked and paid for on the day. In the afternoon, take a guided 1.2 km hike to the Mount Tomaree summit for spectacular coastal views. Depart Sydney Central Station at 6:45 AM, with a coffee stop along the way. Return to Sydney around 6:30–6:45 PM. Travel by minibus (up to 24) or coach (up to 50), making this a fun, social day for solo travellers, friends and groups.

1. Sydney
Meet your passionate local guide and fellow adventurers. Board your comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle and begin your coastal escape to NSW's blue-water paradise. During the scenic drive north, your guide shares fascinating stories about Port Stephens' natural wonders, its unique sand dune ecosystem, and local secrets.

3. Nelson Bay
The dunes are the main event. Stockton Beach is backed by Australia's largest moving sand dune system — 32 kilometres of sand that shifts with the wind and rolls into the sea. You'll have over two hours of free time here. Lay out on the beach, walk the dunes, or upgrade your day on the spot with a 4WD safari into the dune interior and a sandboard run back down. The 4x4 option runs from $40 pp — pay on the day if you're keen. Rather swap wheels for hooves? A camel ride across the dunes is also available from $50 pp. It's exactly as good as it sounds. If you'd rather just sit on one of the longest beaches in New South Wales and do nothing, that's a perfectly solid choice too. The base price covers all of that.

4. Nelson Bay
Lunch Stop – Nelson Bay or Shoal Bay As part of our Port Stephens itinerary, we’ll stop at either Nelson Bay or Shoal Bay, depending on the day’s schedule and local conditions. You’ll have free time to enjoy lunch at your own expense, with a range of cafés, restaurants and takeaway options available. It’s a great opportunity to relax, explore the area and enjoy the beautiful coastal atmosphere before continuing our adventure.

5. Tomaree National Park
Then there's the hike. After the beach, you'll head to Mount Tomaree for a guided walk to the summit lookout. It's a solid climb — about 1.2km each way on a clear, well-maintained track — but there's nothing technical about it and all fitness levels make it to the top. The view from up there takes in Port Stephens, Stockton Beach, and on a clear day, all the way out to sea.

6. Shoal Bay
Free Beach Time at Shoal Bay After hiking Mount Tomaree and enjoying its spectacular 360-degree coastal views, we’ll head down to beautiful Shoal Bay for some free time by the beach. Relax on the sand, take a refreshing swim, stroll along the shoreline or simply enjoy the stunning coastal scenery at your own pace before we continue our Port Stephens adventure.

7. Sydney
Return to the original meeting point - memories and sand souvenirs in tow. Your guide bids you farewell with recommendations for your remaining time in Sydney, leaving you with unforgettable memories of Port Stephens' natural beauty and adventure.
