Overview
Tour Highlights: Without a doubt, one of the most amazing things to see at San Josef Bay are the sea stacks. The sea stacks at San Josef Bay are some of the only ocean-eroded stacks on Vancouver Island, and are certainly the most extreme. Water surging through the sandy passages at high tide has slowly eroded the softer rock, leaving behind only the harder formations. In some spots, this effect has left behind the sea stacks, a remarkable feature, but one found fairly commonly around the world.

Itinerary
1. The natural serenity of San Josef Bay offers hikers moments of nirvana! After leaving Port Hardy we will travel active logging roads, and learn about the logging industry on the way into the historic town of Holberg.
2. Holberg to Cape Scott Trailhead: Keep an eye out for diverse wildlife on the bumpy road to Cape Scott. We'll likely spot Black Bears, Deer, and Roosevelt Elk, and other birds and small mammals are also possible, adding exciting unpredictability to our adventure.
3. Once on the beach of San Josef Bay, wander the shores, hunting for unique shells and smoothed pebbles. Alternatively, explore fascinating tide pools teeming with marine life, observing crabs, sea stars, and other vibrant creatures. The ultimate reward is discovering the epic Sea Stacks, dramatic geological formations carved by nature, offering a spectacular and unforgettable vista that defines Cape Scott Provincial Park. This awe-inspiring grandeur provides a memorable conclusion to our adventure.
4. Upon reaching the trailhead, we begin a 60-minute hike on a well-maintained path through old-growth Western Red Cedar and Sitka Spruce. These ancient trees form a stunning canopy, filtering sunlight onto the forest floor. The air, rich with the scent of earth, foliage, and moss, offers a sensory delight. An outhouse is conveniently located at the trailhead, near the beach, for any last-minute needs before we explore the captivating coastline.
