The Deathly Dark Tour of York is a grim and theatrical, dark comedy walking tour, perfect for those who have a bit of a wicked streak and are looking to explore the dark and spooky history of the city with one of our guides, famous for their wonderfully dark sense of humour. Please note, this is NOT a scare attraction, it is a storytelling experience. The tour is family friendly, but some may find the stories upsetting. If you have a specific phobia or trigger please reach out to us before booking. Children must remain with their parent/guardian at all times. Tour group size is 20-50 people, although this will change depending on the season. Private and small group tours are available on request.
Meeting and Pickup
Your guide will meet you at The Deathly Dark Tours, 4 Grape Lane YO1 7HU. Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the advertised start time. If the booking office is open you will be checked in at the desk, otherwise your guide will meet you outside.
End Point
The tour may end at St Crux courtyard on The Shambles depending on guide, foot traffic and weather. To find your way back to the city centre, just retrace the last bit of the tour, but if you feel a bit turned around please do ask your guide for assistance!
Redemption Instructions
Please arrive 5-10 minutes before departure to check in. Have your booking confirmation ready just incase. If the booking office is open please approach the desk to check in, otherwise your guide will be outside waiting for you. The tour will leave promptly at the time stated on your ticket. Itinerary
1. Are you ready to hear about the terrible things that have happened in the Snickleways of York?
2. There are a number of buildings on Stonegate that have spooky, historical significance which has been lost to time, but the buildings still stand and we know all the facts!
3. The York Minster is a magnificent building that stands high and proud in the centre of York. Officially there are no ghosts here, but unofficially we can tell you about a few!
4. We have some terrible tales to tell in the dark, back streets of Bedern.
5. Coppergate is home to many ghostly stories, but which one will you hear about? Perhaps an angry viking or a grumpy business woman!
6. A warped and wonderful old street, that needs to be seen with your own eyes.
7. We end our time together by the steps of Clifford's Tower (subject to availability) where years of dark history have unfolded.
