Come and experience a trip on the most beautiful highway in Europe! Although the highway itself is considered to be the main attraction, there are many more pit stops on the way. For example, at 2034 meters, we arrive at Balea Lake, having previously admired the Balea Waterfall. The place is filled with merchants selling foods, drinks and souvenirs. The landscape is absolutely amazing. It really feels like heaven! Then, if you're curious to discover more and time allows us, there is an optional free of charge trip available to either the watermill in Lisa, a small village, to experience the traditional way of felting. Or, we can take a delightful lunch (meal not included) at the restaurant in Albota. Perhaps you'd prefer a cultural experience, and we can visit the Cistercian Abbey of Carta. Itinerary

1. Balea Waterfall

Located at 1200 m high altitude, beautiful and wild with more then 60 m water drop, Balea Waterfall is a must see in the area. We will have to walk for 15 minutes until the base of the waterfall. For the ones that prefer to avoid the short hike, then there is a view point were we can stop with the car to admire it.

2. Le Lac Balea

Balea Lake (2034 altitude) is the biggest glacier lake and probably the most beautiful in Fagaras mountains. Right near we can find couple of restaurants and little wooden huts were locals are selling traditional cheese, sausages and souvenirs. We are going to spend here enough time to enjoy the places and the view. A short walk along the lake and the area can be done on request.

3. Fagaras Mountains

Transfagarasan Highway is crossing from North to the South, the mountains of Fagaras. With the tallest peak in Romania, this mountains impressed us with their glacial valleys, greatness and beauty. You will be delight and impressed by he view.

4. Transfăgărășan

Spend the day exploring one of the most famous mountain roads in the world. With spectacular views, the Transfagarasan road takes you above the 2000 m altitude line. Enjoy a break on top of the mountain where a mountain cabin was built at the end of the 1800s for the tired hikers that spent days getting there. The road has an interesting history, being built in the 70s at the orders of the communist leader who wanted to have an extra escape route in case of Soviet invasion.
