Itinerary
1. Piazza San Carlo
Set off at the equestrian statue of Emmanuel Philibert, Duke of Savoy, in the center of the San Carlo Square, one of the oldest and most important forums of the city. What’s more, the central square is surrounded by stunning historical palaces on all sides, especially the stunning twin churches Santa Cristina and San Carlo Borromeo at its southern entrance.

2. Palazzo Madama
Then, walk to the Castello Square, which houses a peculiar historic structure boasting two façades in totally different styles: The medieval Ajaca Castle with tall defensive towers and simplistic decorations contrasts vividly its 18th-century counterpart, the intricate baroque façade of the Madama Palace.

3. Real Chiesa di San Lorenzo
Next, cross the square to the Royal Church of Saint Lawrence, designed by Guarino Guarini, one of the greatest 17th-century Baroque artists, who took huge pride in the breathtaking dome of the church: eight arches forming a star adorned with skylight windows, exquisite paintings, and a luminous lantern in its center. The illuminating effects make the ceiling look like a diamond shining.

4. Royal Palace of Turin
As you move on, stop by the Royal Palace of Turin, originally the Bishop’s Palace but later chosen as the royal residence when the city became the Savoy capital. It then was expanded enormously to live up to its highest position: The elegant and majestic white palace overlooks a huge square flanked by two symmetrical imposing structures.

5. Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist
The next destination is the 15th-century Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. The elegantly symmetrical Renaissance façade features portals decorated with intricate carvings, while the interior still bears a vivid Gothic influence with many masterworks, including a monumental 18th-century gilded choir and the marble statues of St Christina and St Theres, beautifully crafted examples of early 18th-century French sculpture.

6. Palatine Gate
Walk through the Palatine Gate of the Roman colony Augusta Taurinorum or present-day Turin. The imposing structure consists of two 30-meter towers framing a 20-meter-long wall featuring four entryways, for cars and pedestrians. This archaeological site, which has survived 2000 years and served many purposes such as a fortress and a prison, is one of the world's best preserved Roman gateways.

7. Giardini Reali - Musei Reali di Torino
At the end of the tour, take a leisurely stroll in the Royal Gardens of Turin, laid out by the landscape gardener André Le Nôtre, the same designer of the gardens at Versailles, in the late 17th century. The well-cared-for green space dotted with colorful flowerbeds, intriguing statues, and splendid fountains is an excellent spot to enjoy a pleasant break.
