This is the only tour in Old Town Alexandria that focuses on the Revolutionary War. We will show some of the most important (yet not well known) locations that led to the American Revolution. On this tour you will discover Alexandria's connection to the the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Bill of Rights. We will visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the American Revolution. Get ready to walk in the churchyard where George Washington publicly declared he would take up arms to fight for the American colonies. We will explore the historic homes and businesses of famous Revolutionary War veterans. Plus we will show you where the Marquis de Lafayette addressed the citizens of Alexandria! We will meet at the right corner of Market Square as you are facing City Hall. There is a small garden with a statue. The Visitor Center is across the street. The corner intersection is Fairfax and King St.

1. Alexandria City Hall & Market Square
One of the most important documents in American history was passed in Alexandria in 1774. In Market Square, we will discuss how this document led to the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Bill of Rights. *Market Square is open to the public. No admission required..

2. Carlyle House
Built in 1753, the Carlyle House is one of the most important locations on the road to the American Revolution. Learn about the start of General Braddock's campaign during the French and Indian War. * We will pass by The Carlyle House but not go inside.

3. King Street
As we stroll along the 100 and 200 block of King Street, we will see historic locations where famous Revolutionary War veterans lived and worked. These include: - The Gilpin House - Fitzgerald's Warehouse

4. Old Presbyterian Meeting House
We will see the burial ground where many American Patriots are buried. We will also see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the American Revolution. This is a hidden gem in Alexandria!

5. Historic Christ Episcopal Church
We will see George Washington's pew and where he worshipped. This is a historic church that predates the American Revolution. * If the Church is open, we will be able to go inside. The Church is open Wed- Sun from 12pm- 4pm.
